1. Why are you running for county board? What experience or perspective would you bring to county board that you believe is valuable?
I have always felt a strong commitment to public service. Having served on several boards of directors—two for many years—I’ve seen firsthand how collaborative leadership can make a meaningful difference in our community. Eau Claire County has been my home for most of my life, and I want to give back to the place that has given me so much. My work as an attorney has honed my problem-solving and analytical skills, and my board experience has taught me the value of cooperation, respect, and balanced decision-making—all of which are essential qualities for serving effectively on the County Board.
2. What are the biggest challenges facing Eau Claire County?
One of the most significant challenges facing Eau Claire County is the growing pressure on local budgets. The cost of providing services continues to rise, while state-imposed limits and economic conditions make it difficult to generate sufficient revenue without placing additional burdens on taxpayers. The County must carefully establish spending priorities that meet essential needs and maintain service quality while keeping tax rates as reasonable as possible. Another major challenge involves land use and zoning—finding the right balance between encouraging economic growth and preserving the natural environment that makes Eau Claire County such a desirable place to live.
3. The 2026 operational budget highlighted revenue challenges and increased expenses. Many departments prioritize services while reducing expenses for training, supplies and more. What are your views on the county’s budget and spending priorities?
Much of the County’s spending is driven by state-mandated programs and services, which leaves limited flexibility in the budget. For that reason, it’s essential that we continually and carefully review how these obligations are carried out, ensuring they are delivered in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible. At the same time, we must maintain the essential services that directly affect residents, such as our roads, bridges, public buildings, and parks. Addressing budget challenges will require creative, practical solutions—such as departments sharing positions or resources, collaborating with other units of government to reduce duplication, and pursuing additional state and federal grant opportunities to supplement local funding.
4. What is your vision for the future of Eau Claire County?
My vision for Eau Claire County is to ensure it remains an affordable and welcoming place to live for people of all ages and backgrounds. I believe the County should focus on providing essential services efficiently while preserving the natural beauty and community character that make this area special. Well-maintained parks, green spaces, bike trails and recreational areas, along with support for the arts and cultural programs, contribute greatly to our quality of life. By balancing fiscal responsibility with thoughtful investment in these areas, we can keep Eau Claire a desirable, vibrant, and sustainable community for future generations.
